LONDON, United Kingdom, March 7,
2008 - Platform Computing has entered into a technical
partnership with Red Bull Technology Ltd. to provide an integrated High
Performance Computing (HPC) environment to design the world's fastest
Formula 1 cars. Red Bull Technology will leverage Platform's HPC
infrastructure software to significantly accelerate computer-aided
design and engineering processes. This will result in better
designs faster, and ultimately improve performance on the track for Red
Bull Racing Formula 1 cars. Red Bull Technology is the designer and
manufacturer of Red Bull Racing's Formula 1 car owned by Austrian
beverage company Red Bull.
Formula 1 racing is one of the fastest, most expensive and technically
advanced sports in the world. In a sport where literally a
hundredth of a second can mean the difference between winning or
losing, HPC is essential to the efficient and cost effective analysis
of fluid dynamic engineering simulations. By accelerating the design
process and shortening the production time, Red Bull Technology can
optimize its manufacturing process.
"The Platform LSF environment allows us to increase the number of
virtual engineering simulations needed to build the fastest and most
aerodynamically efficient car possible," said Nathan Sykes,
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Team Leader at Red Bull
Technology. "Platform's robust and scalable solution enables us
to fully leverage our growing investments in engineering IT
infrastructure. Platform LSF helps us optimize designs that maximize
the downforce and reduce the drag the cars create on the track. With
Platform's technology behind us, we are confident that we can continue
our rise up the rankings over the next few seasons."
Platform LSF, the world's leading HPC application acceleration
software, enables Red Bull Technology's CFD department to increase the
throughput of jobs by over 20% and maximize its use of the hardware.
"Platform LSF provides Red Bull Technology with a highly effective IT
infrastructure to manage compute-intensive simulations with ease," said
Christoph Reichert, Vice President HPC Sales, EMEA, Platform
Computing. "We offer Red Bull Technology the HPC power it demands
to create the speed and efficiencies it needs to excel on the
track."

About Red Bull Racing
The Red Bull Racing Formula One team was created in 2005. Its first
podium was achieved in Monaco 2006, which proved to be a transition
year for the team. During 2006 there was investment in new staff
and new equipment, while a key appointment was made, in the form of
renowned designer Adrian Newey. Wind tunnels and other simulation tools
were developed and, as the team worked hard on the RB3, the first car
to be designed by Adrian Newey's technical team, the foundations of the
team were firmly established. Later that year came the
announcement that Mark Webber would partner David Coulthard for 2007
and the team confirmed a deal to run Renault engines that had been good
enough to win back-to-back Championship titles in the previous two
years. Red Bull Racing ended the 2007 season by fulfilling its
target of finishing fifth in the Constructors' Championship, ahead of
works teams with far greater experience. The team is now set for the
2008 season, following the recent launch of the RB4.
