NEW YORK, NEW YORK, December 14, 2006 – The
American Financial Technology Awards (AFTAs), the premier information
technology and innovation awards program for the financial sector,
announced Lehman’s use of Platform Computing’s Symphony 3 software as
the winner for the 2006 Best Infrastructure Initiative award.
Symphony 3 is enterprise grid software that allows users to build,
test, grid-enable and manage large-scale distributed applications, such
as credit risk calculations and mortgages trading, on a shared IT
infrastructure with thousands of servers.
Lehman and Platform were selected by a panel of industry CIOs from
entries submitted by some of the leading financial institutions from
around the world. These awards showcase top class performance and
innovation, reward achievement and raise the standards in the
industry.
“Platform’s orchestration of massive computing resources at Lehman
is a testament to the power and growing value of grid computing in the
Financial Services market,” said Songnian Zhou, CEO of Platform
Computing. “Winning the American Financial Technology 2006 Best
Infrastructure Initiative award with Lehman is recognition of our
commitment to developing leading edge technology for our
customers.”
“With Platform Symphony, we are enabling the sharing of both
hardware and services within the company at a much higher level,” said
Thanos Mitsolides, Senior Vice President, Fixed Income Technology,
Lehman Brothers. “Our grid initiative enables us to grow our
business, and because of this, we are already looking at ways to expand
our grid initiative into additional areas of the business.”
The American Financial Technology Awards, now in their second year,
are unique in providing a showcase for examples of innovative business
excellence. The awards’ success last year has generated an even
stronger competition and a greater number of high-level finalists.
“The judging panel and I have a strong commitment to financial
technology and wish to give the highest honors to those making
significant developments in the field,” said Phil Albinus, Editor,
Waters Magazine. “The high caliber of the nominated initiatives
is evidence of the close collaboration of IT vendors and their
customers with their progressive approach to the market.”
