With the 130nm process generation, the semiconductor industry saw new challenges achieving semiconductor yields. For the first time – two chips that followed the same design rules delivered completely different yields when sent to manufacturing. Shrinking process geometries dramatically increased each design’s sensitivity to manufacturing defects.
