Q:  What’s the news?
A:  Platform Computing has acquired the Scali MPI Connect™ business and all remaining assets of Scali AS.  This includes the full Scali MPI product and related technologies, all key development personnel, and all customer support obligations.  Platform will continue to sell, support, and enhance Scali MPI under the Platform MPI brand.

Q:  What is Scali MPI? 
A:  Scali MPI is a fully integrated message passage interface (MPI) solution that enables users and independent software vendors (ISVs) to build high performance applications. 

Q:  Why did Platform acquire the Scali MPI business from Scali?
A:  Scali MPI is an important tool for the HPC community.  As a leader in HPC software, MPI is a natural fit for Platform’s software suite, and it is consistent with our HPC strategy of broadening our offerings to a more complete set of software tools for the HPC community.

Q: What customers are using Scali MPI?
A: Companies including Goodyear, Daimler AG, Lockheed Martin, US Army and Navel Air, Schlumberger and Shell benefit from using Scali MPI.

Q:  What are Platform’s plans for Scali MPI?
A: Platform’s immediate plan is to ensure all customers are fully supported in their ongoing use of the Scali MPI product.  Platform intends to continue to sell, support, and enhance Scali MPI. 

Q:  When is the next upgrade expected?  What are the features?
A: In the short term, Platform will focus on updating benchmarks and certifications of MPI on latest hardware platforms.  Future plans include enhancing the existing integration between MPI and Platform LSF by end of the year.

Q:  How does the product compare to other MPIs?
A: Scali MPI has been widely acknowledged as providing top performance results across a range of 3rd party benchmarks compared to open source or other commercial MPIs.  Open source implementations do not provide continuous, reliable and consistent levels of support as in a commercially supported product.  Scali MPI is the only commercial MPI implementation not based on an open source implementation, and therefore not restricted by the limitations of non-commercial libraries.

Q:  How does this acquisition affect Scali MPI customers?
A: All Scali MPI support contracts will be honoured by Platform and Scali MPI customers will be fully supported by Platform.

Q:  What does this acquisition do for HPC customers?
A: HPC customers are assured of having a performance leading MPI product commercially supported by hardware and OS independent vendors.
